Hi, it's nice to meet YOU!

Updated: Oct 6, 2020

My name is Sydney and I would love to get to know each other a little better.

Always Sydney, and never Syd, but you can call me "S" if you want to. I am writing this post because design is personal. If I am going to expect you to share your origin story with me, its important that you know mine as well.

My Origin Story

As a kid with serial movers as parents, I developed a type of unsettledness that created that an interesting connection to spaces we feel comfortable in at a young age. I became curious as to how we find comfort when we do not have a sense of permanent "home". In high school, I thought it was about the building. I quickly learned that it wasn't about the architectural origins or how long you had stayed in one place, it was about a sense of community.

My Education

I received my BFA in Interior Architecture from Columbia College of Chicago. Interior Architecture? Yes, it's confusing but it is different from Interior Design. The most notable difference is that in addition to the typical ID (interior design) education, I also studied architectural materials, construction, and fabrication. No, I am not a licensed architect, but I am well educated in building types and systems that affect our experiences within space.

I studied both residential and commercial design with focuses in the psychology of design, narrative design, brand development.

My Work Experience

I worked solely in the residential design industry for about 6 years before exploring commercial design. I was invited to work on a Children's Center that inspired me to work on refocus my work on places we find community and experience the extraordinary moments in life. Since then, I have completed projects within the hotel, retail, restaurants, and multi-family industries. Today, I proudly work in both sectors of design.

When I am not in the studio, you can find me in the kitchen experimenting with new recipes, curating new playlists on Spotify, on the trails exploring nature, or trying to convince my husband to let me get a puppy (still a work in process).

I would love to get to know you all more! Comment or Contact us for a free 30 minute consultation to see if we would be a good fit to work together.
